Jo Latimore is one of three ¸Û°Ä±¦µäCriminal Justice students accepted into the Nassau County Pre-Law Society. The program only accepts a few applicants each year and then works with them through their undergraduate years and acceptance into law school.
"I decided to come to ¸Û°Ä±¦µäafter academically struggling at my previous college. I also honestly didn't know what I wanted to do with my life. After finishing the Spring 2021 semester, I knew something needed to change. My mother had attended Nassau and had nothing but good things to say about it, so it seemed like a natural alternative and a good first step. Originally, I was an Environmental Science and Health Science major, but -- since I'm fascinated with the workings of the law and the justice system -- I decided to switch to Criminal Justice. I have family members who are lawyers and seeing their passion and dedication to their work inspired me. I also knew deep down I've always wanted a career in helping people and criminal law is a way I can do that. I'm grateful for the connections I've been able to have with my professors throughout my time at NCC. It feels like they truly care about my education and my future.
I first read the email about my acceptance on the train going home from work. It was all I could do not to burst into tears right on the E train! This is the farthest step I've been able to take regarding my future. After NCC, I plan to continue my education and get my bachelor's in criminology. Then my goal is to become a paralegal and one day go to law school and eventually get my juris doctorate degree."

I served in the United States Navy in Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, II and at Camp Pendleton with the 5th Marines. I was also deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice. Stateside, I knew that ¸Û°Ä±¦µä has a reputation for being very military friendly, and when I got here, it was true.

"I served in the United States Navy in San Diego from 2014 to 2021, first on the USS Harpers Ferry and then on the USS Rushmore. When it was time for me to attend college, I chose ¸Û°Ä±¦µäbecause it's veteran friendly and offers many different programs.
